Presented by Human Concepts and Jeitosa

It used to be that most changes in business, including workforce change, were intermittent.   Like rafting down a river with rapids, organizations would go through a period of tumult – or whitewater -  when they would reorganize, shift resources or reassign employees in one big event.  Then the workplace would return to a stable state of ‘business as usual’.  Over time, the change cycles have become shorter and shorter, and we’ve now reached a point of continuous change – or ‘permanent whitewater’.
What is the framework for managing change when it’s constant? How do you employ methods and tools to make sure you stay on top of the wave, not in it?
Join Jeitosa and HumanConcepts to discuss the new 'permanent whitewater' of workforce change along with the tools and techniques you need to manage for better results.

Organized by IHRIM Pacific South West and presented by Karen V. Beaman

There is no question that the modern workforce is changing. And it’s changing fast and in many ways. Understanding these changes and learning to manage them effectively is a key role that HR has in optimizing the productivity of workforce. There are four major aspects to the evolving modern workforce – the new Multi-Dimensional Talentforce:

• Multi-Generational

• Multi-Cultural

• Multi-Contractual

• Multi-Locality

Interwoven throughout these four dimensions are, of course, personality characteristics — both learned and socialized — that make up the human workforce. Clearly the challenge for HR and organization leaders is to develop strategies that effectively utilize the strengths of the multi-dimensional talentforce and mitigate the challenges by leveraging global diversity through Awareness, Understanding, Acceptance, and Integration. Transitioning through these stages from initial Denial and Rejection to Awareness and Integration involves managing the process of change. Some individuals understand and embrace diverse ways of working more readily than others. A major role for HR professionals is to support individuals and the organization throughout the continual change process. This presentation will discuss each of these areas and explore the lead that HR can take in helping to leverage the workforce and manage the change and integration process in the increasingly complex world we live in.

In our increasingly global world, HR is confronted daily with challenges in meeting the needs of the global organization. Many HR systems in use today were implemented by corporate headquarters and do not encompass the requirements of the full global organization. Coping with multiple, disparate systems and un-integrated processes make it difficult to align the global HR organization with corporate goals. Building a business case to consolidate, integrate, and align HR systems across the globe is a complex, but achievable task. This presentation will describe the process and major components that Global Hyatt Corporation followed in building a business case for a global HR implementation, covering both business and financial aspects and assessing both tangible and intangible value.

The changing technological paradigm brought about by Web 2.0 and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is enabling a new framework for HR business process design. The traditional method of defining business requirements and building system specifications by creating a plethora of static Word and Excel documents is being replaced by a rapid, iterative, collaborative, prototyping approach. The new world of On-Demand applications that are agile, adaptable, and dynamic allows users to build their business processes online in a collaborative, iterative manner – changing and refining processes as they move forward – creating a much richer, faster, and more effective approach to HR business process design.

Think Local, Act Global
Karen Beaman

Whether to centralize or decentralize the global HRIT organization continues to perplex HR and IT executives. Yet, it turns out that we’re not asking the right question. In fact, we’ve been going about globalization completely the wrong way. The old adage, “Think Global, Act Local,” is the inverse of what we should be doing in HRIT. Rather, it is by first “thinking locally” to understand the needs of our local business communities, and then “acting globally” to seamlessly knit together diverse business functions and systems into a holistic approach that we can build an effective and competitive global organization.

Organizations are increasingly under pressure to deliver greater value for less cost and to drive enterprise performance management and accountability on a global basis.  But how do you determine value and evaluate cost in a global environment?  What is highly prized in one culture may be looked down upon by another; what is high cost in one country may be cost effective in another.  Metrics on diversity, mobility, satisfaction, retention, rewards, recognition, and so on differ widely in their interpretation, acceptance, relevance, and usefulness in different countries around the world.  The challenge before us is to “think locally, but act globally,”  This means we must first make sure that we truly understand the requirements and conditions in the local business environment; only then can we build a global workforce intelligence model that is effective and relevant on a worldwide basis.  Based on the results of a recent “Going Global” survey, this presentation will describe the types of metrics organizations are using globally, regionally, and locally.  We will attempt to unravel some of the complexities of global workforce intelligence and illuminate the cultural influences organizations face in interpreting and driving organizational performance through predictive analytics and business forecasting.

Twenty years ago, Dave Duffield founded PeopleSoft utilizing a new, little known technology client/server. Dave invested in this technology as the future for human resource systems delivery. In retrospect, we know that client/server revolutionized HR and PeopleSoft became the dominant vendor for this solution. Today, Dave Duffield is banking on web services as the next revolution in Human Capital Management solutions through his new company Workday.

This presentation will discuss the many faces of Web Services technologies. Internationally renowned experts Karen Beaman founder of The Jeitosa Group and Kelvin Gray of Workday will discuss the benefits of Web Services technology as well as clarify the collection of alphabet soup of acronyms associated with it. Additionally, the presenters will discuss the impact of Web services on the HR industry and what it means for ERP and modern HR solutions.

Karen V. Beaman is the founder and Managing Partner of The Jeitosa Group, a worldwide strategic business consultancy focused on making global HR a reality. Judy Canavan, Compensation Advisor, Jeitosa Group International
Companies of all shape and size -- whether they are foreign or domestic, start-up or publically traded -- are often faced with the need to determine market rates for mission critical jobs that do not have distinct counterparts in published surveys.  In this educational webinar sponsored by HCR Solutions Software, Judy Canavan, Global Compensation Advisor for Jeitosa Group International, will discuss how to address these types of positions.  Using real examples from her 20+ years of consulting experience, Ms. Canavan points out ways the strategic hiring and positioning of critical talent throughout an organization is dependent, in part, on having the ability to determine job market rates. What do you do when this information is not readily available? What are the factors to consider? What are the steps necessary to determine if compensation and benefit programs are market competitive and internally equitable?

Global Mobility and Working Effectively with Cultural Differences around the World
Karen Beaman
With the rapid growth of the Internet and the emergence of the Digital Economy, with the increase in mobility of people across geographic borders, and with the expansion and multiplicity of regional trade alliances (NAFTA, EEC, ASEAN), the birth of the "global village" is becoming a reality.  Yet, most companies are ill-prepared to take on the challenge of working across borders: the vast majority of our employees have had largely "ethnocentric" upbringings with little to no exposure to how business is done outside their own cultures.  What role does culture play in the workplace and in the success (or failure) of international business interactions?  What are the differences in how people communicate, conduct meetings, make decisions, etc. that are ripe for conflict and misunderstanding in a multi-cultural environment?  The fact that culture has a profound impact on the workplace cannot be disputed.  Karen Beaman talks about the many factors involved in effective cross-cultural communications with the goal of increasing awareness that business around the world cannot be done the same manner that it’s done at home.

Web services is a technology that has been heralded as the "next big thing" for a number of years now. More recently "service oriented architecture" (SOA) is the buzzword seemingly connected with every technology offering. In 2007, are web services and SOA still just buzz words or are these concepts beginning making a real impact within the HCM marketplace? Are these technologies merely new ways of integrating systems or are there higher-level business benefits being realized?

In this session, internationally renowned experts Karen Beaman, founder of Jeitosa Group International, and Kelvin Gray of Workday will help you cut through the hype with their perspectives about where web services and SOA are making an impact and what challenges exist for the full realization of benefits within the HCM marketplace.

How many presentations have you sat through about HR becoming a strategic business partner? One issue is that HR and HR technology sometimes work in opposing directions: either too charming catering to the soft stuff or too “cerebral” generating a plethora of unintelligible metrics. Statistics show that 80 percent of HR departments have either gone through or are in process of “transformation”. What are the skill sets required to truly transform the role of HR and HRIS in an organization. This presentation will show you how you and your HRMS can be both charming and cerebral, delivering greater business value to your organization.

The business world continues to globalize. No longer limited by geography or national boundaries, companies of all size are ‘going global’—compelling HR professionals and other decision makers with significant line-of-business and value creation responsibilities to enter the unchartered territory of sustaining competitiveness worldwide using new tools in new markets. The truth is, building a world-class borderless enterprise is difficult to conceptualize, visualize, and support. The complexities of acculturation as well as the barriers of language, business practices, and international regulations contribute to a lack of organizational clarity when transcending boundaries. This timely, thought-provoking webinar sponsored by HumanConcepts Inc. and Jeitosa Group International will discuss business models for the global stage that embrace growth, highlight proven processes in optimizing a cross-border orientation—and demonstrate a best practice tool to help executives best organize themselves for international operations.
